As part of the renovation of this house in Merchiston area the outdoors also had a complete overhaul - a traditional formal garden including a large lawn, roses, gravel paths, stone terraces, an orchard under-planted with wildflowers, willow screening and a beautiful stone fountain was built by David Gilmour. McQue Gardens was asked to help with the planting of the long herbaceous borders. The owner wanted as much colour for as long as possible so Phlox, Iris, Aquilega, Achillea,  Delphinium, Lupins, Hemerocallis, Shasta Daisies, Sedum, Lobelia, Nepeta, Campanula, Dicentra, Hellebore, Salvia, Helenium, Peony Roses, Meconopsis and Kniphofia were planted. These provide a riot of colour from spring until  autumn and attract a huge amount of wildlife which in turn area are valuable for pollinating the fruit trees in the orchard beyond.
